Marlon Brando was an American actor, known for his work in both film and on Broadway. He is regarded as one of the greatest actors in history and he was renowned for his Method Acting. Brando was born on April 3, 1924, in Omaha, Nebraska, USA.
He started out as a Broadway actor. He was highly praised for his acting as characters in Broadway plays. Marlon Brando won two Theater World Awards, for his acting in the plays Candida and Truckline Cafe, in 1946. He acted in a Tennessee Williams play, A Streetcar Named Desire in 1947. He acted as the character Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire. Marlon Brando next became a film star, he starred in his first film The Men, in 1950.
A notable film Marlon Brando acted in is A Streetcar Named Desire, released in 1951. This film was directed by Elia Kazan. Elia Kazan was a renowned director. The film starred Vivien Leigh for which she won a Best Actress Oscar. Marlon Brando was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his role. The film also stars Kim Hunter and Karl Malden. Kim Hunter won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role.
Karl Malden won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role. Marlon Brando also starred in films such as Viva Zapata!, Julius Caesar, Sayonara, and Last Tango in Paris. For each of these films Marlon Brando was nominated for Best Actor Oscars. He won two Best Actor Oscars, one for his role in On the Waterfront, and the 2nd Oscar for his film The Godfather. Marlon Brando did not accept his 2nd Oscar win to protest against negative representation of Native Americans in Hollywood.
For A Dry White Season he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. A memorable film Marlon Brando is in is the musical Guys and Dolls. Throughout his career Marlon Brando won two Academy Awards, three BAFTA Awards, Five Golden Globe Awards, and a Primetime Emmy Award. Marlon Brando was married to actress Anna Kashfi, from 1957 to 1959.
Marlon Brando was married to actress Movita Castaneda from 1960 to 1968. He was married to actress Tarita Teriipaia from 1962 to 1972 and was the father of 11 children, 3 of them were adopted. Marlon Brando died on July 1 2004, due to congestive heart failure, in Los Angeles, California, U.S. He was cremated, as his ashes were thrown in Tahiti and Death Valley, USA. qJamil Khan is an artist, cultural entrepreneur and writer.
